Summer like no other.

Credits to chibird

Omg, i've been in Korea for a week already! Right now it's 8pm+ here, but probably only 7pm+ in Singapore. So not used to being an hour late here because i keep thinking it's still early. -.- So far so good! I'm just tired most of the time. Haha. The steep slopes in Seoul National University (SNU) is so much more worse than NUS i swear. But the scenery here is really really nice. So green with many trees and gardens, plus the buildings are all quite nice and cool. The weather was better than i expected! When i did research online, a lot were saying summer is damn hot, and my pen pal also warned me about it. But hey, definitely not as hot as Singapore. No doubt that i would perspire quite a bit in the day, but that's because i'm forever walking uphill. The wind in the afternoon is also cooling, like Genting kind of feel, just not misty. At night it could sometimes be quite chilly though. If only Singapore has this kind of weather!

24th June

Flight was 1.10am, so my awesome family sent me off. After this preparing for this trip, it became more evident how supportive my family is of me. :') I missed them so much when it's just only the first day that when i skype them i had to hold my tears for fear they would worry. Hahaha, i super fail can. But maybe it's because i was super tired on the first day. Totally couldn't sleep on the plane as the seats were really straight and stiff which was super uncomfortable for my neck. The service wasn't as good as Singapore Airlines but the leg space was really big!

Reached Incheon International Airport at about 8plus in the morning. I also feel that Changi Airport is of better standards. Hahaha, maybe i'm just bias.

We took the airport limousine bus all the way to SNU which cost us 15,000won. The seats were much more comfy and i took a quick nap while on our way.

A random shot while in the bus.
Then after settling in the room, where i was paired up with Yvette, we cleaned our room and unpacked our stuffs.

Being the cheapskate me, i didn't buy the beddings which cost 30,000 won but brought an old bedsheet, a small pillow and a blanket over. I also kope the white pillow form the plane. Lol. Didn't take pictures of the dorm room, but it's spacious enough. The toilet and shower are separated so that's really good. All's good just that the place is a tad dusty and full of short hairs as the previous people staying in this room were guys. Tried to find a broom but i couldn't find any. :/

After that we headed out using the shuttle bus which we took a long time and effort to find our way to. The campus here is super big. Tried asking directions, but the man we approached only know korean. However, he's still nice enough to try to direct us, but we still end up being lost so we asked some students who were surprisingly good in english and kindly showed the way. I'd say Koreans are generally nice and friendly! :) We alighted near the station and went in a random restaurant to have our lunch because we were starving. It was quite difficult to order since everything's in korean words and not everything has pictures for us to point to. Even if there were pictures, there's no price. In the end i just ordered a bowl of bibimbap which i'm familiar with.

Such a hugeeee bowl. Couldn't finish and i was damn full. And oh! They kind of have this culture of self-service free flow side dishes and plain water? Damn cool. And usually their utensils are in the drawer at the side of the table. We kept making the mistake of searching and asking for utensils. I could understand a little bit of korean, like the super basic kind, so when the stall owner told me bibimbap cost 4,500won i understood and took out a 5,000won note. Rachel and Yvette was like 'Eh, how you know what she's saying?'. Haha. Just a smart guess.

We then bought the subway card and headed to Gangnam. Things were priced quite reasonably, but i didn't buy anything that day. Shopped there till we were super tired and decided to head back. As toilet paper was not provided, we had drop by the supermarket to get them. Quite ex leh! They only sell them in packets of 24 rolls. And we brought them for 19,000+ won? No hand soap provided too, but fortunately, clever me brought a bar of soap from home! ^^ Met a mutual friend of rachel and her friend, so 4 of us cabbed back to the dorm as we were lugging a lot of stuffs. The cab uncle was friendly! Quite a few before him rejected us for god knows what reason. Thankfully he accepted us and even though he knows we are foreigners and don't quite understand korean, he still kept making conversation with us in korean. Haha. I tried replying him whenever i can because i don't totally understand him, just a little here and there.

Bathed and went to have dinner in the cafeteria in school. Still super full from lunch so 2 person shared one meal. The rice with beef beef bulgogi(?) which yvette and i shared was unexpectedly damn good! Cheap also, especially when 2 of us shared one. Haha. Their cafeteria usually only have 2 different set meals a day where you can decide to buy the food coupon for your selected meal set at the counter and proceed to collect your food down the row.

Yvette and i bought this awesome brownies to share for breakfast too! Packaging so nice! Might buy some home to give people. :)

Tried the banana milk too! Love it! ^^

Skyped with family and also damn uncomfortable without wifi but only lan cable in the room.
):

25th June
I woke up at 4-5am and i was surprised to find out that the room was so bright as if it was already 8-9am! @.@ Took me awhile to go back to sleep before waking up at 8am again.

The awesome view from my room! Trees everywhere! And that black stuff on top is an insect on my window. -.-

Orientation day!
They provided lunch buffet which was of super good standard! But there were so many people that by the time it was our turn, most of the good stuffs were gone. Smoked duck, bacon sausage and crab meat were my favorites on my plate!

Had a tour around the school (tiring) and after the entire thing ended, we head off to gangnam undergound shopping arcade which was located at Express Bus Terminal station. Took us a while to find the place but when we did, we shopped quite a lot. The rows of shops were quite startling. And most stuffs are selling at 5,000 won and 10,000won. Super worth also, cause even 5,000won clothes are of pretty good quality. I bought quite a bit on this day! Finally dragged our feet back and had dinner at pizza school near SNU station before heading back to the dorm.

They sell yummy cheap pizza here! This potato pizza cost 6,000won! Normal size! Menu states 2 person serving, but it was enough to feed 3 of us. We also ordered a baked cream spaghetti which we could barely finish. Super stuffed.

Took public bus back to the dorm since there wasn't any more shuttle buses. We lost our way especially because we followed a bunch of foreign students whom we thought knew their way around but apparently not. Thankfully, we asked for directions from a korean guy who was nice to explain and told us the right stop to alight. :)

OH! I managed to find a way to convert lan cable connection to wifi! Super happy i can use handphone in the dorm now! Although it's only available when i switch on my laptop.

26th June

Classes officially started. Woke up at 7am since we had a class at 9am.
Studying calculus all over again after not touching it since JC. I forgot everything! -.-
And they still use chalk here!

We only had an hour lunch break, and there wasn't much food to get around our classroom so i just ate cup noodles from the convenience store. Damn shag for the entire day. Imagine having classes from 9-6pm with just one hour lunch break. Calculus and psychology somemore.
Had 4,000 won omelette rice at a restaurant near our dorm for dinner! Pretty yummy!

27th June

Same for the day before, lessons all the wayyy.

Had 2,500won jajiangmian for lunch which the students in SNU recommended while giving us campus tours during orientation day!

Tried their 600won watermelon ice cream too because we saw so many people eating ice cream. Hahah, super nice! Not those icy kind and the 'seeds' are chocolate nuts! Damn worth the money!

Classes so far are so boring. I'm okay with calculus, though i cannot catch up most of the time. But when it's psychology time my brain starts to shut off. Not sure if i'm just tired, or it's just not as interesting as i thought it would be. :/ I just hope i can pass both modules.. Sian, there's a calculus quiz tomorrow which i'm not confident of. But rach, yvette and i are all stuck in the dorm now revising for it. On a sunday when we were supposed to have fun. ): Anyway, we had our 3 day 2 night field trip to Gyeongju from 28th June to today. Not super exciting and fun, but it's a great experience. :) Will blog about that on a later date, when i'm free! Tons of photos to upload. Definitely need quite some time to do a proper post of it.

Gotta go study.
*coughs*
